Nicholas Murgolo is a resident of New Jersey and has specialized in family law for nearly the entirety of his legal career. He is licensed to practice law in both the State of New York and State of New Jersey. Nicholas graduated Boston College magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in both economics and history in 2008.  He thereafter obtained his juris doctor from William and Mary Law School in 2013, where he finished second in his law school graduating class and served as a member of William and Mary Law Review. After graduating law school, Nicholas spent one year as a post-graduate fellow with the New York City Law Department, Appeals Division, where he handled a wide variety of appellate cases on behalf of the City of New York. Nicholas has argued before the Appellate Division in both the First and Second Judicial Departments.  Following his time at the Law Department, Nicholas accepted a position as a trial attorney for the Administration of Children’s Services (ACS), where he handled child abuse and neglect cases on behalf of the City of New York for five years. While at ACS, Nicholas was quickly promoted to supervisor, allowing him to further demonstrate his litigation ability by handling more complex child abuse and neglect matters. In 2019, Nicholas opened the firm of Murgolo & Rutigliano, Attorneys at Law, LLP with fellow Administration for Children’s Services supervisor, Melissa Rutigliano. His entire practice is devoted to family and matrimonial law. As a private attorney, Nicholas has represented clients in all types of family law matters – custody and visitation, child support, orders of protection, child abuse, and neglect, etc. Nicholas also practices in Supreme Court on matrimonial cases. Nicholas has been a member of the Richmond County Assigned Counsel Panel since 2020, where he represents individuals who are unable to afford their own attorney. Nicholas is a zealous advocate who believes that each client deserves an individualized approach to his or her own situation.

Melissa Rutigliano is a resident of Staten Island and has dedicated her career to family law.  Melissa graduated Moravian College and Theological Seminary with a Bachelor of Arts degree in financial economics in 2007.  She went on to obtain her juris doctorate degree from Hofstra University School of Law in 2010.  While studying at Hofstra University, Melissa was on the Family Court Review journal and was an Executive Research Editor for volume 48 of the Family Court Review Journal.  During her time in law school, Melissa interned with an attorney who specialized in family and matrimonial law.  After graduating from law school, Melissa joined the New York City Administration for Children’s Services.  Melissa started as a staff attorney and quickly rose to the position of a supervisor.  While at the Administration for Children’s Services, Melissa represented the City of New York on child neglect and abuse cases.  In her role as a supervisor, Melissa frequently counseled and trained new attorneys regarding ACS policies and practice.  Melissa also appeared on custody, visitation and family offense matters on behalf of the Administration for Children’s Services.  In 2019, Melissa opened the firm of Murgolo & Rutigliano, Attorneys at Law, LLP with fellow Administration for Children’s Services supervisor, Nicholas Murgolo, where Melissa continues to devote her entire practice to family and matrimonial law.  In private practice, Melissa represents clients in Family Court child abuse/neglect matter, custody and visitation, guardianship, family offense and child support matters.  Melissa also represents clients in Supreme Court on matrimonial matters.  Melissa has been a member of the Richmond County Assigned Counsel Panel since 2020, where she represents individuals who cannot afford their own attorney, as well as children.  Melissa is currently admitted to practice law in both New York and New Jersey.
